Practice Begins Thursday September 8 2011

Practices for the 2011 season will start on September 8, at 7:30PM until 9:45PM at Kings Park High School (small gym, entrance via back parking lot). Practices will be held every Thursday, unless the school is closed. The Chariots and Strikers are grateful to the nice people in the Kings Park School District for inviting our teams back once again.

The teams are preparing for the fall IWS Invitational Tournament. Regardless on which team you have been selected to play in the past or if you have never played on any of our teams, you might now be selected to play on one of our teams at the tournament. We ask you to come prepared, to work hard, to attend as many practices as possible. And have some fun!!

The opening of the NHL season here on Long Island is Saturday, October 8, as the Islanders face the Florida Panthers at 8pm at the Nassau Coliseum.

As part of opening the Opening night festivities, the New York Islanders will be celebrating "NY Chariots of Fire Night," to kick off the season. The Chariots of Fire are a non-profit group of disabled athletes who participate in a sport known as Indoor Wheelchair Soccer. The organization will man a table in the concourse to display and explain the sport and accept donations.

A significant portion of each ticket sold by the chariots will be donated by the Islanders back to the team and serve as a fund-raiser for the organization. Tickets are $60 and will assist the non-profit disabled sports organization to continue with the current 2011-12 season. The financial difficulties felt nationwide have maid it extremely hard for this totally volunteer-driven group to keep the wheels rolling. The organization is based in Kings Park, Long Island and is comprized of three IWS teams currently; the NY Chariots, the NY Strikers and a yet to be named Queens based team.
